We are thrilled to announce that the Unite for Change Florida Collegiate Consortium will be making its debut in the sunshine state this summer. We are pumped to launch this statewide initiative and welcome those of you who call Florida home, (even if it's just for 2 semesters per year) to be a part of this project. The Unite for Change Florida Collegiate Consortium aims to empower college students throughout the state to create positive social change within their communities that will reduce sexual violence. The Consortium will unite exceptional student leaders to impact change throughout their campus community helping to create a cultural shift across the state of Florida. Through their vision and with the support of Unite for Change and assigned mentors, students will share ideas, suggest solutions and make plans to reduce sexual violence on college campuses throughout the state of Florida. Unite for Change is actively seeking remarkable student leaders to begin serving in July 2010. Applications will be accepted through April 23, 2010. For more information about this project and application instructions visit www.UniteForChange.com If you are interested in your state being a part of the second launch phase in 2011 please send an e-mail to info@uniteforchange.com and we will share the details about the process with you. A Frustrating Search for JusticeIn 2009 the Center for Public Integrity published an investigative series "Sexual Assault on Campus." The team of reporters and researchers on this project examine judicial proceedings involving sexual assault, barriers in reporting sexual violence and campus statistical information. Whether the findings in the articles surprise you or not we hope they inspire folks to question the procedures, responses and resources that are currently in place because clearly what exists in some communities is simply not enough. If you have not yet had a chance to learn about this project or read/listen to the stories we encourage you to check them out here and pass them on.
